What is the Solar Decathlon?
The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon challenges collegiate teams to design, build, and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy efficient, and attractive. the winner of the competition is the team that best blends affordability, consumer appeal, and design excellence with optimal energy production and maximum efficiency.
About the TEAM
ASUMN is a collaboration between Arizona State University and the University of New Mexico as designers of the SHADE home for Solar Decathlon 2013 competition, which takes place in Irvine, CA on October 3-13, 2013.
Team ASUNM (Arizona State University and University of New Mexico) got its name from the acronyms of the two schools. Fortunately, it also spells out SUN where both southwestern states have plenty of. The home's design reflects its name: SHADE [Solar Homes Adapting for Desert Equilibrium].
